Methodical Coffee opened its doors in downtown Greenville, South Carolina on February 11, 2015, founded by three friends who shared a vision of fostering connections through exceptional coffee. David Baker, Will Shurtz, and Marco Suarez launched their venture with minimal capital but maximum determination, opening to a line out the door that validated their community-focused approach from day one. The founding trio brings complementary expertise to their methodical approach: Baker handles operations and business management, Shurtz serves as the roaster and coffee expert ensuring quality and consistency, while Suarez leads brand and experience design, crafting the customer journey and atmosphere. Their initial investment came from personal funds and family support, demonstrating their commitment to building something meaningful within their community. Methodical has earned national recognition, being named one of the "Best Coffee Shops in America" by Food & Wine and featured in prestigious publications including Bon Appetit, Architectural Digest, and The Wall Street Journal. The company sources top-quality beans from Africa, Central, and South America, emphasizing ethical sourcing practices and direct relationships with coffee farmers to ensure responsible production that benefits all involved. The roastery's philosophy extends beyond coffee to encompass four core principles: Community, Connection, Craft, and Complexity. They create spaces designed for meaningful conversations while pursuing coffee that stops customers "mid-pour" with its thoughtful complexity.
